Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress who works in the fields of film, television and theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe the fiery lawyer in the Showtime series Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an aptitude for acting in her when she was a child and won the Best Actress award at a Maryland high-school competition. Apart from her role at the theater, she also worked with 'The Washington Ballet Company.' She received an acting degree from New York University. Soul Food, her TV show was greatly praised due to her performance. Also, she appeared in TV series such as Second Time Around' and Empire. Early in her career she performed in several stage plays. Parker is a political activist who has an active interest in politics is married to model and actor Boris Kodjoe. They have two children.

The family was born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until 7 years old, Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed the world and an array of cultures at a very young age. When she was seven until nine, Contractor was a student at boarding schools in London. The family later moved to Toronto which she stayed in for most of her childhood. Contractor had a great academic career in Toronto in addition to her training as a ballerina. In the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public school for high schools that is specialized in arts) the student studied dance and theatre. Contractor was dancing for over 10 years when she started when she decided to pursue acting. As soon as she finished high school, she received a full Scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed a Masters in Theatre and was also a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Contractor was offered the leading role in Pericles following her one year stay at the University. The audition was held for the part at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. She received rave reviews for her work on the stage in 92 productions. this play, which was named the production of the year by Canadian critics in 2002. Contractor accepted the offer to join Stratford's Conservatory. Only eight men selected and four females accepted to a course of 20 weeks of classical theater. Contractor's spot was assured for the following season of shows She was also offered Hermia's character as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
